TELEVISION & FILM
Aside from acting on stage in the West End or in smaller stage productions, Stephen also used his acting skills, among others, for the small screen throughout the years. From lending his voice to a cartoon to acting in a horror movie, hosting duties and dancing on ice, Stephen made quite a few appearances on our screens and hopefully you should find most of them on this page.

Stephen's first appearance on the small screen was in Alan Parker's movie adaptation of the book The Commitments in 1991. Based in the Northside of Dublin, the story is about a music fanatic putting together a band formed of only working-class youths. Stephen and Margaret, his mom, appear briefly in one of the opening scenes of the movie.

Only one year after Stephen appeared in The Commitments, he took on the role of a young choir boy in the short drama movie The Bargain Shop, by Johnny Gogan. The movie was produced for the RTE and we don't have many informations about it, but Stephen joked that his first costume then looked a lot like the one he wore in the Cinderella Panto.

Boyzone were no strangers to doing adverts, but in 1997 Stephen was picked by the RTE to film an informercial on his own. In it, Stephen is seen going through "his" old personal belongings from when he was a child and finds an old movie of himself as a kid building a Ferrari car to play with. Flash forward to a few years later and adult Stephen is finally driving a real one. While promoting the RTE channel, the ad also showcased the idea that if you work hard, everything is possible, something Stephen knew a thing or two about.

After singing the theme song for Disney's Hercules in 1997, Stephen was asked to record Bright Eyes, the theme song for the new Watership Down TV series, premiering in September 1999. Besides appearing on the soundtrack, Stephen also did the voiceover for a special character that appeared in three episodes, Blackavar. The cartoon character was specially designed to have some of Stephen's features: the blue eyes and the split hair!

Not afraid to try new things, Stephen joined the Dancing On Ice family and competed in the second series of the show in early 2007. Paired with professional skater Kristina Lenko, Stephen learned how to skate on the ice and use his dance skills to perform week after week. Unfortunately, lifts were a challenge for the duo and Stephen was evicted during week 4. It didn't stop him to visit his friend Kyran Bracken and cheer him on every week until the finale, which Kyran won.

As a movie enthusiast, Stephen owned over 2000 DVDs, often buying new releases from America so he could get them before they were out in Europe. So it was only a matter of time before he found himself involved with movie stars and well known directors. When the Film24 channel was launched in July 2007, Stephen took on the job of presenter and interviewer, interviewing actors and directors alike in a short program covering movie releases, behind the scenes and explanations on many aspects of the film industry. And Stephen finally got to interview his idol, Miss Piggy!
